The i-lab will award a limited number of dedicated space allocations to Harvard-affiliated startup ventures for a 12-week period during the Summer of 2014. Applications must be submitted by matriculated, degree-seeking Harvard students. The expectation is that the lead team member who is a Harvard Student must have a presence at the i-lab on a regular basis. We are very excited to announce 2014-2015 leadership opportunities for TechMedia Club. With over 400 members, TechMedia Club is one of the largest and most active clubs on the HBS campus. It is known for hosting the widely popular treks (WesTrek, Boston and NYC), Cyberposium Conference, startup and VC panels, notable speaker events and much more.

By joining the TechMedia Club leadership team, you will have unique opportunities to network with industry professionals, organize interesting events, and connect with the HBS and Greater Boston tech community.

Corporate Relations

  • VPs of Big Tech (1-2): The VPs of Big Tech lead communications and coordination with large cap companies in the tech & media industries.  The VPs of Big Tech are also responsible for connecting other officers to large cap companies for their respective events.  Responsibilities included under this role includes events such as panels, info sessions, and coffee chats with large cap companies.
  • VPs of Startups & VCs (1-2): The VPs of Startups & VCs lead communications and coordination with startups, growth-stage companies, and VCs in the tech & media industries.  The VPs of Startups & VCs are also responsible for connecting other officers to startups, growth-stage companies, and VCs for their respective events.  Responsibilities included under this role includes organizing events such as panels, info sessions, and coffee chats with startups and VCs.

Education

  • VP of Education (1): The VP of Education is responsible for planning and organizing educational opportunities for TechMedia Club members, including but not limited to Learn2Code Firehose Weekends, CS50: The Good Parts, and Intro to UX workshops.

Community Relations & External Affairs

  • VP of External Affairs (1): The VP of External Affairs is responsible for connecting TechMedia Club members to organizations, resources and events outside of HBS. Events include mixers with other Harvard and Boston-area schools, major technology conferences (CES, SXSW), and networking opportunities in the greater Boston tech community.

Career and Member Development

  • VP of Career Development (1): The VP of Career Development serves as the liaison with CPD. Responsibilities include communicating with the Career and Professional Development office and sharing job opportunities with club members.
  • VP of Member Development (1): The VP of Member Development leads connecting and surfacing HBS resources for all TechMedia Club members.  Responsibilities include career and academic panel events, iLab liaison, mentorship program, and club-wide social events.

Web Development

  • VP of Web Development (1): The VP of Web Development will work with the webmaster to lead the development and maintenance of the TechMedia website, event/program websites, and other online communications tools.

Career Treks

  • Co-Chairs of WesTrek (2): The Co-Chairs of WesTrek lead the organization and execution of WesTrek that occurs in December.
  • Co-Chairs of Boston Trek (2): The Co-Chairs of the Boston Trek lead the organization and execution of the Greater Boston Trek that occurs 1-2 times per academic year.
  • Co-Chairs of NY Trek (2): The Co-Chairs of the New York Trek lead the organization and execution of the New York Trek in January.

 Cyberposium Conference

  • Co-Chairs of Cyberposium (2-3): Manage the leadership team for HBS’s 20th annual TechMedia conference, to be held November 2014. Cyberposium is the largest and longest running MBA technology conference in the country.

Product Marketing Strategy for an Early Stage Startup

ABOUT THE PROJECT: A Cambridge-based startup founded by a Stanford GSB graduate is looking to partner with an HBS student for the Fall term. The company’s web-based product will help individuals navigate the complexities of healthcare reform (full company description below). The company is now working on scaling their marketing strategy, and they are looking for an MBA student who is interested in a product marketing project. This would be a great project for someone who is passionate about digital marketing and interested in using technology to make a critical life decision simpler and more elegant for consumers.

As part of this IP you would gain firsthand experience with startup customer acquisition and retention. You will be responsible for:

  • Developing marketing campaigns and strategies for new customer acquisition channels
  • Testing these campaigns and iterating on their design
  • Analyzing results and recommending additional customer acquisition strategies to the founding team

This is an early stage company, so you would have the opportunity to see your recommendations directly implemented. The company is building a fun, result-oriented team, so for the right candidate this opportunity could have long-term potential.

Description

We are looking for an intern to join the OpenTable Product Team, the group responsible for designing OpenTable’s consumer and restaurant products across the web, phones and tablets.

The position is a unique opportunity to build product management skills for a company with a strong consumer brand reaching millions of diners a month combined with a B2B company with 30,000+ customers.

The intern will split his or her time between working with Consumer product managers responsible for all aspects of the consumer experience and with Restaurant product managers responsible for the entire restaurant platform.  You will help conduct market, competitive, customer, and user research to define product features.  You will work cross-functionally with our marketing and sales teams.  In addition, you will be hands on with product implementation and testing.

Desired Experience

  • Current MBA at a top tier school.
  • Previous background in either management consulting or working in product/marketing/business roles at a consumer internet or B2B software company
  • Demonstrated experience and/or aptitude for complete product/project workflow processes including requirements gathering, analysis & design, implementation, testing, deployment and communication.
  • Ability to work independently and gather information without supervision.
  • Proficiency with web metrics, web technologies, user experience and/or social media would be considered a plus.
  • Working experience with design software, such as Photoshop, GIMP, and Balsamiq also a plus.
  • A passion for food and dining.
